Since 2001, GA EPD has mandated that all public water systems implement a Backflow-Prevention Program, requiring all backflow-prevention testing be performed by an approved Tester. Testers must hold a certification from one of the following to be recognized in the state of Georgia:
- Statewide Backflow-Prevention Tester Certification Program (GA EPD Program administered by GAWP)
- Training, Research, Education, Environmental Occupation (TREEO from University of Florida)
- American Society of Sanitary Engineers (ASSE)
- American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA)
