Why Volunteer?
Glad you asked!
There are lots of good reasons to volunteer with the AWWA Local Host Committee. Here are just a few:
  • Learning
Staying current with the latest issues impacting the water industry, upcoming regulatory changes, up-to-date scientific research, changing methodologies, etc. is a critical part of job advancement. Water resources is a dynamic field that is constantly changing – educating yourself ensures you are a valued employee and a candidate for leadership.
  • Networking
Conferences are about more than just sitting in presentations and talking with vendors in the exhibit hall. It’s about networking with your peers in the water industry to expand your horizons, and meeting new colleagues who can be a resource of information and assistance.
  • Demonstrating Leadership
GAWWA volunteers often find they are given new opportunities to demonstrate their leadership potential outside their traditional job title. This can lead to promotions, career advancements, and greater job satisfaction.
  • Attending a national water industry conference – for free!
If you’ve had a difficult time finding the budget or convincing your boss, this could be your chance to attend the premier educational conference in North America. Many volunteers will receive a full registration to the entire 5-day conference, including a pass for the exhibit hall (one of the largest water resource technology showcases anywhere).
  • Representing Georgia
With nearly 20,000 attendees expected, the world truly will be coming to Georgia for the conference. What a shame it would be to have them leave without experiencing the warm hospitality and authenticity unique to Georgia! It takes real people to make real connections, and you are at the heart of the Local Host Committee’s efforts to give visitors a welcome they’ll long remember. We hope you’ll join us!
